Laos has confirmed 1,097 new Covid-19 cases and three fatalities over the previous 24 hours, bringing the total to 59,895 including 119 deaths, the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control reported today.
Of the new infections, 1,082 were classified as domestic infections and 15 as imported cases with most of the domestic infections were reported in Vientiane 460, Luang Prabang 137, Phongsaly 78, Vientiane (province) 72, and Bokeo 65. Champassak reported 59 domestic transmissions as Xayaboury logged 52 and Borikhamxay posted 49.
Meanwhile, 27 cases were recorded in Savannakhet, 19 in Saravan, 18 in Oudomxay, 14 in Xekong, 13 in Khammuan, and 12 in Luang Namtha. Five cases were reported in Huaphan and two in Xieng Khuang.
Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control, Ministry of Health, Dr Sisavath Soutthanilaxay told a press conference today that the newly recorded infections were detected among 5,987 people tested for Covid-19 yesterday. Some 403 patients were discharged from hospital on Thursday.
