Most Covid-19 cases have been detected among people aged 20 to 39 years old who are young and in working-age, a meeting on Covid-19 situation has been told.
People aged 60 years and older tend to develop severe conditions when infected with Covid-19, Dr. Bouaphan Khamphaphong, Deputy Director, National Centre for Laboratory and Epidemiology, Ministry of Health told the meeting in Vientiane on Tuesday.
The number of new cases of Covid-19 infection in Laos has been declining since the end of May. However, local transmissions continue to be recorded almost every day in Vientiane where most infections were traced back to restaurants, karaoke venues, massage parlors and festive parties during Lao New Year celebration, families, communities and workplaces.
Dr. Bouaphan Khamphaphong also said that authorities have attributed an increase in local transmissions in Vientiane to the failure of local citizens in red zone villages to comply with lockdown measures of the government.
