Vietnamese Lunar New Year celebrated in Vientiane

The Vietnamese Cultural Centre organized a reception to celebrate the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival in Vientiane on Jan 21.

Lunar New Year or T?t is the most significant celebration of Vietnam. During this time, Vietnamese people reunite with families and honour their ancestors, while praying for luck, prosperity and health.

This year, according to Vietnam’s tradition, Jan 21 was the last day of the Year of the Tiger while Jan 22 was the beginning of the Year of the Cat.

The celebration was attended by Vice Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Vansy Kuamua, his colleague Phosy Keomanivong, Director of Vietnamese Cultural Centre Nguyen Phuc Xing and relevant officials.

“In 2022, we made significant efforts for both nations to strengthen the relationship, great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam, to increase the activities of art, culture and tourism under the framework of the Laos-Vietnam Year of Solidarity and Friendship 2022, which marks the 60th founding anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the two countries’ treaty of friendship and cooperation,” said Deputy Director of the Vietnamese Cultural Centre To Thi Thanh Binh.

The celebration featured cultural shows by Vietnamese and Lao artists to promote cultural exchange and relations and cooperation between the two countries.
