Xaisomboun: The rescue mission commenced on June 3 with a coordinated effort between Lao and Thai authorities to rescue individuals trapped in the flooded cave system.

According to Lao News Agency, the joint Lao-Thai rescue coordination team has been tirelessly working to pump out water from the cave to enable divers to delve deeper into the system. Despite the intensive efforts, the operation faces difficulties as water pumps need to be turned off when divers enter the cave, which leads to rising water levels.

In addition to pumping efforts, rescue teams are actively surveying sinkholes and exploring alternative access points above the cave. They are employing scanning technology to map the underground water flows to facilitate the rescue operation.

Officials have reported a significant breakthrough with the discovery of a natural water outflow point below the mountain. This discovery has led authorities to seek approval for the use of excavators to expedite drainage from the mountain's lower area, aiming to reduce water levels within the cave.

If conditions allow, rescue teams are prepared to progress further into chambers four and five, where they believe the two missing individuals are located. The operation is ongoing around the clock, with Lao and Thai rescue personnel working urgently against time and weather conditions to reach the trapped individuals.
