PNP opens first satellite gun ownership regulations hub

PALO: The Philippine National Police (PNP) has launched the first satellite hub of the Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR) Secretariat inside the Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8) compound as part of the PNP’s drive to enhance firearms ownership regulations in the region.

PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil and PNP Eastern Visayas regional director Brig. Gen. Reynaldo Pawid led the inauguration Tuesday of the first PTCFOR secretariat outside Camp Crame in Quezon City.

‘Notably, the establishment of the PTCFOR secretariat satellite hub represents a significant development for firearm regulation in the Philippines. This hub will streamline the processing of applications for the PTCFOR for all licensed firearm holders in Eastern Visayas and nearby regions. This new facility is expected to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of firearm permits, contributing to improved public safety,’ the PNP regional office here said in a statement Wednesday.

The PTCFOR hub launch is funded under the
PNP’s 2023 trust receipt fund with an allocation of PHP5.12 million.

The budget also funded the Police Regional Office 8 command center. This state-of-the-art facility will be the central coordination hub for all regional police operations, enhancing public safety and security, particularly during emergencies and natural disasters.

‘It ensures seamless communication and collaboration among various units and agencies, coordinating swift rescue and relief efforts during emergencies,’ the statement added.

The command center includes a war room designed for strategic planning and operational deployment, featuring a short-throw projector for clear and concise displays.

Additionally, the central operations area, managed by regional tactical and technical personnel, boasts a large LED (light-emitting diode) wall that provides real-time feeds, maps, and data from body cameras, closed-circuit television, and drones.

This area also includes a television monitor dedicated to vehicle tracking, all of which support p
roactive responses and efficient resource deployment, according to PNP.
