Giving guidance speech at the 8th National Meeting of the Lao Women’s Union on Friday, Secretary General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President Thongloun Sisoulith urged the Lao Women’s Union committees at all levels to ensure members of the Lao Women’s Union are equipped with stronger political ideology and uphold revolutionary morality and right values, protect women’s dignity and make a breakthrough step in women’s advancement.
He asked representatives of women from across the country to attach attention to improving their organizations in all areas and actively tackle social problems plaguing women including human trafficking, domestic violence, discrimination, and attach attention to the advancement of women, especially the marginalized and women in remote areas through capacity building and helping them gain access to sustainable income generation.
He emphasized the necessity of increasing women’s access to education, innovation, funding, and markets for their agricultural, handicraft and processed products, and creating favourable conditions for the development of the Lao Women’s Union as a representative of right and interest for women and children.
He urged the Lao Women’s Union to work with the government, local authorities and mass organizations to ensure competent women are recruited for all tasks.
Chaired by the President of the Lao Women’s Union Inlavanh Keobounphan, the 8th National Meeting of the Lao Women’s Union was held between Nov 18-19 and attended by representatives of members of the Lao Women’s Union from across the country.
The meeting was reported about the implementation of the Lao Women’s Development Plan over the past five years (2016-2021) and development targets set for the 2021-2025 period, as well as revision of the bylaw of the Lao Women’s Union.
The meeting also saw the election of the new executive committee of the Lao Women’s Union with Mrs Inlavanh Keobounphanh re-elected as its chair and Mrs Silikit Boupha and Mrs Lavanh Soutthisane as Vice Presidents.
