Twenty-three unemployed people from Luang Prabang, Xieng Khuang, Vientiane (province), Borikhamxay, Champassak and Vientiane have completed a three-month training course on tailoring, beautification, cooking, hospitality and elderly care.
The vocational training programme was organized in collaboration with Vientiane Education and Sports Department and the Naxaithong District Office of Education and Sports with support from the Japan International Volunteer Organisation – IV Japan.
Scheduled for Mar 14-Jun 10, the training aimed to help disadvantaged youth, especially the unemployed aged between 15 and 35 to access employment and decent jobs.
The graduation ceremony of the training course was held on Jun 10 with Representative of IV-JAPAN to the Lao PDR Ms. Sachiko Tominaka presenting certificates to successful trainees in the presence of relevant officials.
“We focused on vocational education and training on carpentry, cooking, beautification, and hospitality. We have encouraged women and youth to take vocational courses,” said Ms. Sachiko Tominaka. “Almost all of them are farmers and cannot choose other jobs because they don’t have any skills rather than how to farm rice.”
