Mr Khamphanh Vanthana, Head of the Sustainable Urban Transport Project said that the project purchased 150 e-pedicabs with ARC Lao Sole Company in response to the Sustainable Urban Transport Project. This is loan from Global Environment Facility (GEF) worth of USD456,000 and a loan in 2014 from Asian Development Bank plus the government’s contribution worth USD99.7 million.
The project aims improve pedestrian facilities near BRT station areas by installing signalized pedestrian crossings, street lighting, pavement upgrades, and universal accessibility measures. In addition, it will introduce nonmotorized transit by providing electric pedal vehicles (e-pedicab) which aims to improve the quality of transport service and promote green energy in the city center of Vientiane.
The Sustainable Urban Transport Project have including: UTMS, Bus Rapid Transit “BRT”, Traffic Management System, Parking management, Non-Motorized Transit “NMT” by using electric pedicabs now finished to bid for supply electric pedicabs which agreement of ADB on March 24, 2023, expect to handover electric pedicabs 10 months after signing in July 2024.
The signing ceremony was held on September 13 in Vientiane, between General Director of Transport Department Bounta Onnavong and the Managing ARC Lao Sole Company Mr Phanomphone Phiasatkhua in presence of relevant officials.
