The Lao PDR has recorded US$1,156 million worth of imports and exports in the first month of 2022, according to the Lao Trade Portal.
With the exports reaching US$598 million and the imports recorded at US$557 million, Laos has logged a trade surplus of US$41 million US dollars.
Main exports included mixed gold and gold bars, paper scraps and wood pulps, cassava flour, latex and products made of glass.
Meanwhile the imports were dominated by vehicles (excluding motorcycles, tractors), fuel, machineries, spare parts,petroleum products, industrial wastes, chemicals and medicines.
China ranked first as the largest market export for the Lao PDR with US$217 million, followed by Thailand US$ 141 million, Vietnam US$110 million, Australia US$42 million and Japan US$12 million.
The top five import markets for the Lao PDR included Thailand with US$254 million, China US$ 108 million, Vietnam US$ 27 million, Switzerland US$ 59 million and the United States US$ 41 million.
Electricity was excluded from January’s list of imports and exports.
