Vientiane: Laos and China have formalized a new trade cooperation agreement focused on the export of durian. The agreement, signed by Elavan Latpakdi and Gao Qiuyu, aims to enhance the trade relationship between the two countries by capitalizing on the rising demand for Lao durians in the Chinese market.
According to Lao News Agency, the signing ceremony was attended by representatives from both government and business sectors, highlighting the significance of the deal. Officials have expressed that this agreement signifies a long-term commitment to bolstering trade ties, with a particular focus on agricultural products. The deal is set to promote the expansion of durian cultivation in Laos, ensuring that production standards meet international market requirements and enhance export capabilities.
The ceremony underscored the necessity of adhering to Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) standards. This includes ensuring product safety, conducting residue testing, and implementing grading systems and export procedures that align with China's stringent requirements. The collaboration is expected to support Lao farmers in improving production quality while meeting the growing demand in China's lucrative market.
