First National Media Conference Concludes, Sets Direction for Media Development Through 2030

Vientiane: Laos concluded its first National Media Conference on Wednesday, adopting a roadmap to strengthen Party leadership and accelerate the modernization of the country's media sector through 2030. According to Lao News Agency, the three-day conference, held under the theme "Strengthening Party Leadership and Developing Media Toward a Strong Transition to a New Quality," was attended by President Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, Gen. Vilay Lakhamfong, Standing Secretary of the Party Central Committee Secretariat, Khamphan Pheuyavong, Head of the Party Central Committee's Information and Education Commission, senior Party and State leaders, and representatives of media organizations nationwide. Presenting the conference summary, Khamphan said the event successfully reviewed the achievements and challenges facing the media sector while outlining strategic priorities and practical measures to improve the quality, professionalism, and effectiveness of Lao media. In his closing remar ks, Gen. Vilay described the conference as a historic milestone that laid the foundation for the long-term development of the country's media industry. He said delegates conducted an objective assessment of the sector's strengths, shortcomings, and emerging challenges, while agreeing on key directions to strengthen media governance, professionalism, and innovation. The conference also reviewed a national assessment of media development and heard 12 presentations covering digital transformation, journalism, broadcasting, and media management, providing recommendations for future reforms. Gen. Vilay called on media organizations to continue serving as an effective bridge between the Party, the State, and the people by communicating national policies accurately and responsibly while adapting to rapid technological change. The conference concluded with a policy address by President Thongloun outlining the Party's vision for building a modern, professional, and high-quality media sector.
