ODESSA, Ukraine – Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Director General Kiril Valchev and National News Agency of Ukraine Ukrinform Director General Oleksandr Kharchenko signed an agreement on cooperation during the official opening of the BTA National Press Club in Odessa, Ukraine on June 24. The agreement stipulates that each country will receive the news services of the other, including news bulletins in English. “We are signing a contract in BTA’s new Odessa home, according to which BTA will start buying news from Ukrinform, as is the practice with other news agencies that work only on a commercial basis,” Valchev said. Valchev said news from the BTA correspondent in Odessa about the Bulgarians from Ukraine will be able to reach the Ukrainian media through Ukrinform, which can freely use BTA’s feeds. ‘Prayer for Ukraine’ book During the BTA press club opening, Bulgarian writer Teodora Dimova presented her new book entitled “Prayer for Ukraine.” The book is comprised of essays she wrote in March 2022, at the beginning of the war in Ukraine. Dimova said she collected texts written about the war in Ukraine, because a large part of the Bulgarian community there was literally torn apart by the war’s aggression. “All of us who are outside your country could not believe this indiscriminate cruelty that is being committed here,” Dimova said. “When I heard the sirens in person, their howl penetrated my blood and chased away my sleep. And for you, this is an everyday occurrence. When I saw young boys in uniform at the checkpoints, my heart clenched. And these are your children and your sons. When I saw the barricades on the road to the port, it was as if my mind could no longer accept what was happening,” the writer recalled. Dimova is hoping that her book ‘help all of us deepen our prayers for Ukraine.
