Vientiane:The Government of Japan has supported the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in organizing the Third Review Conference of the Convention on Cluster Munitions (3RC-CCM) in Vientiane this September. This support was facilitated through the Counterpart Fund, aiding in the preparation and hosting of the international gathering.
According to Lao News Agency, the conference took place from September 14 to 18, 2026. It brought together delegates from States Parties, observer States, international organizations, civil society groups, survivors, and other stakeholders. The focus was on reviewing progress under the Convention and discussing priorities to enhance its implementation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Japan’s contribution was instrumental in helping Laos meet its obligations as host and President of the conference. This support also bolstered national capacity and international collaboration in unexploded ordnance (UXO) and mine action efforts.
The ministry expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their ongoing assistance and anticipated further strengthening of bilateral cooperation, especially in addressing the humanitarian and developmental challenges posed by UXO.
