Attapeu: Authorities in Attapeu Province have set a target to develop the skills of more than 22,500 workers by 2030 under the 10th Five-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan. Officials say the plan outlines a combination of public and private sector initiatives to build a more skilled and competitive workforce. According to Lao News Agency, under the plan, the public sector is expected to train 17,500 people. This includes 1,000 individuals receiving training at development centers and 500 people participating in mobile or field-based training programs. Another 16,000 workers will undergo national skills standard testing. The private sector is also expected to play a key role, with local businesses encouraged to develop the skills of 5,000 workers. In addition, authorities plan to establish new training curricula in 10 business units and improve existing programs in 30 others. Capacity-building efforts will include strengthening 15 skill instructors. Officials say the province also aims to facilitate job pl acements for 4,000 people in both domestic and international labor markets. The plan emphasizes several priority areas to ensure long-term workforce development. Authorities say the province will promote multi-disciplinary training across different sectors to ensure workers meet labor market demands and maintain high standards of discipline and productivity. Efforts will also focus on standardizing skills by developing certification systems, improving quality assurance, and aligning training programs with employer needs. Support for youth employment is another key priority. Officials say the province will provide career counseling, promote self-employment, and improve unemployment registration systems. The plan also aims to strengthen coordination between public and private sectors to help transition workers from informal to formal employment. Rural job creation remains a central focus, with plans to expand employment services to four additional districts and prioritize local labor for decent work opportunities.
