Gia Lai and Southern Lao Provinces Forge New Cooperation Agreement

Gia lai: Gia Lai province signed a cooperation agreement for the 2026-2030 period with the four southern Lao provinces of Attapeu, Champasak, Salavan, and Sekong at a conference held in the Vietnamese locality on March 29. The event was marked by discussions aimed at strengthening ties and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.

According to Lao News Agency, Chairman of the Gia Lai provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan emphasized the enduring relationship between Vietnam and Laos, cultivated by President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane, and President Suphanuvong, along with successive generations of leaders. The cooperation between Gia Lai and the southern Lao provinces has achieved notable outcomes in areas such as education, healthcare, agriculture, trade, science, and technology.

Economic, trade, and investment collaboration has seen progressive growth, with cross-border trade becoming more dynamic. This has significantly contributed to socio-economic development and improved living standards on both sides of the border. The representatives from the four Lao provinces expressed gratitude for Gia Lai's support, acknowledging the beneficial impact on socio-economic development and political security in the region.

Both parties agreed to further enhance trade connectivity, develop logistics, and cooperate in sectors like agriculture, education, healthcare, culture, and tourism. They committed to closely coordinating efforts to uphold national defense and security, thereby maintaining stability along the border.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Sekong province and Vietnam's PISICO Binh Dinh Corporation. This agreement focuses on coordination and support in research, surveys, and exploration of investment opportunities in industrial and agricultural sectors, including the development of large timber trees and the supply of plant varieties.
